The Blessing

Numbers 6:24-26 has been translated into a song called, The Blessing. When I first heard this song a few years ago I instantly liked it. I am not a huge fan of songs that tend to repeat their verses. That happens a lot in this particular song, however, for me the more times those verses are repeated the more I feel God near me.

At the start of 2022, I went to a young adult conference called Passion. It was quite the experience; a whole stadium filled with young adults, like me, who are there to worship God. This song was one that was played and it brought me to tears.

At the time of attending Passion, I was just over a month post-abortion. I was still living in the pain of what I had done. Trying so desperately to stuff my emotions. To ignore what I'd done, to try and forget my baby because the pain and realization of what I had done were too overwhelming. So, when the band started to sing this song, all I could think about was my child.

For anyone of you that don't know the lyrics of the song, it goes, "May His favor be upon you, And a thousand generations, And your family, And your children, And their children, And their children." Those lyrics are near and dear to my heart.

Here I was, crying over the loss of my child while also praying this blessing over myself and my future family. That day, in a stadium with a thousand other young adults, the Lord moved in my heart. There were other moments throughout those two long days when the Lord spoke to my heart that has lead me here. It has been a long, hard, and painful journey to get to where I am at.

The Lord has shown Himself faithful to me in my wilderness. He has drawn me closer to Him and through this painful journey, I have come to know the Lord on a much deeper and personal level. Our sin is not too big for God to move in our lives. In my blog, "May the Lord bless you and keep you," I dive more in-depth into what this blessing entails. I encourage you to go and check it out.

Whenever I hear this song playing, I feel God near me. I feel my precious baby near me. While this song comes with pain, it comes with a promise as well. Our God is for us. My Friends, the Lord is near and He is working in your life. He is working through your pain. He is bringing you redemption and restoration!

Lord, I stand here today, in awe of how big You are. Lord, I thank you that our sins are not too big for you to handle. Lord, I thank you for the blessing you pour out onto us. In our times of wilderness, may we remember you are for us. Amen.
