Abortion Hurts Everyone
Updated: Feb 5, 2023
Our culture today likes to tell people that abortion doesn't bring harm when in reality, abortion brings about higher risks of depression, anxiety, suicidal behavior, and drug and alcohol abuse. What isn't addressed in our culture is how much regret women and men face when it comes to their abortion(s). The abortion industry refuses to acknowledge the pains that abortion brings because they understand that if they acknowledge the hurts that have brought to many men and women they would have to be held accountable. Do you wonder why people or organizations will not acknowledge the hurts that they have caused? I don't. I understand why people don't want to acknowledge what they've done because they don't want to admit that they are wrong. It's human nature. I do not condone this behavior, however, we can understand that all behavior makes sense in context, not as an excuse but as an understanding. Many hurting people do not want to admit the hurt they bring to others. I wonder how hurt those who are in the abortion industry are to participate in such a vile act and willingly bring harm to others.
Science clearly points to the fact that all life starts at conception, Dr. Micheline Matthews- Roth of Harvard Medical School states, "It is scientifically correct to say that an individual human life begins at conception, when egg and sperm join to form the zygote, and this developing human is always a member or our species in all stages of its life" (emphasis added). The fact that the abortion industry claims that a baby is just a clump of cells is wrong. Just within the first 24 hours, a life is being conceived and that life is worth protecting, at all costs. I will be the first to admit how wrong I was to follow through with my abortion. How much regret I have and how I would do anything to go back and change my decision. The reality is there is nothing I can do about it now, however, that doesn't mean I have to live caged by my past. I have a voice and I can use that voice to stand for life, a life I should have protected, at all costs. I have the opportunity to share the truth about what abortion really does to people, the hurt that it brings, and the deep regret that follows.
Simply because I had an abortion I have the authority to speak the truth about this very controversial topic. I have personal experience with the agony that I was in, the depths of the depression that consumed me, and the amount of anxiety I faced and still face at times. Our culture has failed those who suffer from abortions, whether male or female, we need to provide a safe space for people to speak their truths. As a society, we need to come together and provide support for those who are in pain, we cannot silence them simply because we do not want to face the facts. The truth does hurt and it is through facing the truth can we truly find healing from the pain. I cannot necessarily tell you how to best face your pain. What I can do is highly encourage you to go to the Lord in confession and pray for His healing, go to therapy, reach out to your local crisis pregnancy center, seek advice from your pastor, or reach out to a trusted family member or friend. The first step in healing is admitting you need help. It wasn't until I admitted to myself the deep hurt I was in that I was able to start the road to healing, redemption, and, restoration. My friend, wherever you may be, it's not too late to start that journey. Don't allow culture to keep you suffering in silence. Together, we can break the stigma around abortion regret.
Lord, I lift up those who are hurting to you. Lord, I pray for their healing, I pray for their redemption, I pray for their restoration. Lord, you are the only one who can bring the true healing we all seek. You have provided us with beneficial resources that can help us on our healing journey. Lord, it is my prayer that as a nation we can raise our voices to protect the lives of the innocent. That we can stop the murder of human life. Amen.
